Sunrise surprise...

Look what floated over a couple of days ago. I was laying awake in bed just before 7am the other morning and thought I heard a noise... I listened for a minute then realised what the sound was...

I went outside to discover three hot air balloons making their way over the house...

For me they have magical quality about them and I love to discover them 'sitting' strung out over on the horizon. Huge tear drops of colour gracefully drifting across an immense blue canvas sky...

The 'small child' in me is captivated with delight, wonder and fasination. I think it is to do with their movement and the sense of freedom and peacefulness they invoke.

I have often thought they would look good reproduced in something like CQ - imagine where one could go with that - perhaps I shouldn't!!!!

Would I ever go up in one? Considering I am not very good with heights - I don't think so. But then again - I just might!! I understand that there is a landing site not far from us so perhaps next time we will go down and see them come in...

I remember the first time I saw balloons in the sky over Camberwell as I drove in to work one morning - it blew my mind! It's definitely on my to-do list to go up in one ... one day :) Your description of it is beautiful :)

The hot air balloons used to regularly drift over our place in the winter months, and I used to live in hope that a flight would end up in our paddocks, but they never did!
The local Ostrich farmers took a dim view of their flocks being stampeded by the noise and now it's no more balloons...and funnily enough there are NO ostrich farms in the district either!

This Sunday morning (I think it was) I was outside getting the newspaper. It was quite overcast, so I couldn't see much, but I heard that eerie long hhhrrruph sound that always takes me a while to identify. And then I saw the first of about 5 balloons appear through the cloud, quite close and large, and they kept appearing and disappearing in the mist. I'm glad others have the courage to do those kind of things.

Remind me to show you some photos next time I see you. Ken gave me a gift voucher for a hot air balloon ride, for my 50th birthday. It was the ride that goes over the city, and was one of the most fabulous hours of my life. I'd love to do it again, but the price is a bit prohibitive for everyday joy flights!
